In 2012, he gained popularity by winning Comedy Central, India’s Best Stand Up Comedian contest. Khan has also been a part of On Air, a news comedy show with AIB. He has also released standup specials of three-hour duration on Amazon Prime Video: Haq Se Single (2017), Class XI (2018) and Amen (2022).

Khan holds a diploma in sitar and is a college dropout. Zakir said that he would be a music instructor instead of a stand-up comedian.
He became well-known in the Indian stand-up comedy industry in 2012 after winning Comedy Central’s India’s Best Stand Up comedy competition.

He also appeared as a judge on Amazon Prime’s Comicstaan Season 2, where he mentored the contestants in a genre of comedy called anecdotal comedy. He also became one of the four judges in season 3.
